Second is explaining that when seeing the four truths, there are two direct realizations. On the path of seeing with signs, when wisdom of particular characters arises, it is called the direct realization of wisdom. Relying on this very wisdom of particular characters, one realizes the unconditioned cessation of defilements under each of the truths; this is called the direct realization of abandonment. The direct realization itself is not the cause of abandonment, but because direct realization realizes abandonment, it is called direct realization of abandonment. Alternatively, one may also make use of the path of seeing with signs to explain the signless path of seeing in distinguishing the two direct realizations; because the path of seeing with signs cannot sever defilements and realize the cessation of defilements, if it is named as obtaining abandonment with respect to subsequent realization, there is no flaw in the doctrine.
