Regarding "offenses by nature and offenses by prohibition," broadly dividing the five categories, the first category is offenses by nature, and the latter four are offenses by prohibition. Distinguishing minutely within them, in the first category there is also the sense of prohibition, and in the other four categories there is also the sense of nature. In the overarching principle, the five categories for śrāvakas arise in body and speech and are not in mental karma. Examining the root and branch of the teachings, they prohibit all three karmas according to suitability, hence it says "as appropriate." The statement "other loci of offenses in the five aggregates of offenses should be known according to their characteristics" means matching the three karmas, destruction of discipline, destruction of views, and so forth, to the five categories as appropriate; for detailed discrimination, one should verify against the vinaya commentaries.
