The fifty-ninth [topic] explains three phrases: applied preparation and so forth. Jing says: taking the three phrases as the basis, the two rounds of explanation are entirely the scripture's text. 'The remedy for lustful craving and ignorance is applied preparation' refers to ordinary beings giving rise to this applied preparation that subdues affliction. 'Directly seeing established and non-established truths is direct realization' refers to noble persons giving rise to this direct realization. 'Having abandoned lust and not having abandoned lust is continuity': generally speaking, whether an individual has abandoned lust or not is called continuity; this applies to both ordinary beings and noble ones. Furthermore, 'due to basis, due to stage, due to grade, due to not having cultivated concentration, and due to having cultivated, not obtained, and obtained' re-explains continuity. 'The obstacle to purity of the basis' re-explains direct realization. 'Due to the obstacle to purity of mental application, and due to the remedy for those obstacles' re-explains the preceding applied preparation.
