In the third challenge, regarding "if not of a different characteristic, because there is no distinction from that cause, it should also always be..." and so forth: Their original doctrine posits that the produced coarse form does not exceed the measure of its cause; therefore the effect is challenged as also necessarily being permanent and without distinct characteristics, like the cause, and hence there would be no determination. Regarding "if from dispersal, all effects should arise at all times," and so forth: Aggregated form at the time of the aeon of formation, if produced from dispersed, distinct atoms, then all the atoms at the time of the aeon of emptiness would all be able to produce effects, because the cause is always present, just as at the time of the aeon's formation. It is not only at the time of formation that there is an effect due to a cause, and thus the establishment of cause and effect lacks determination. The above has set forth the refutations; below, their original doctrine is refuted.
