Regarding 'the mental activity of lack of tranquility operating in continuity': Kuiji says that the former is the active manifestation and this is the seed. The present explanation is that due to the arising of afflictions, it operates in unwholesome karma in continuity; that treatise explains it: because of its arising, the continuum of body and mind operates in lack of tranquility, which is the characteristic of affliction. This further has six kinds: distraction, inversion, restlessness, torpor, heedlessness, and the non-tranquil nature of shamelessness. Among the seven latent dispositions (anuśaya), greed is opened into two doors, and the remaining ones are each of one kind, together forming seven, in accord with the Abhidharma treatise.
