Regarding 'intrinsic nature': the essence of affliction. The sixth fascicle of the Abhidharma states: lack of tranquility is the common characteristic of all afflictions. Here it says: 'self' refers to the characteristic of lack of tranquility in the essence of these two dharmas; contrasted with non-afflictions, it is called intrinsic nature. Since that pervades all afflictions, it is called a common characteristic; as the intended meanings differ, there is no contradiction.
