"As well as spontaneous lapse of mindfulness" is the condition for giving rise to innate views. "Equally observing and grasping" clarifies the cognitive aspect of the view. Gong says: These two views of self equally observe according to the object, and grasp the five aggregates; hence it is called 'equally observing'. Bei says: Among the five aggregates, conceiving whichever aggregate it may be to be a real self, it is therefore called 'equally observing'. Ji says: Among the five aggregates, whether specific or common, observing them equally and, following what is observed, immediately grasping it as the view of a self. Among extreme views, 'whether conceptually constructed or non-conceptually constructed': the sixth fascicle of the Vijñaptimātratā has two explanations: one says that only the view of annihilation pervades both categories; the other says that the view of permanence does as well, citing scriptural authority and reasoning at length as explained there.
