The seven latent dispositions (anuśaya) are sensual craving, aversion, craving for existence, conceit, ignorance, view, and doubt. Only seven are named latent dispositions because the meaning of following and increasing is predominant in the root afflictions. These are the actively arising craving and so forth, which are named latent dispositions after their seeds; alternatively, it can be said that here only the seeds of afflictions are named the seven latent dispositions.
