Among the four floods (ogha): the flood of sensuality has as its nature all afflictions in the desire realm, excluding views arisen from non-Buddhists and their conjoined ignorance. The flood of existence has as its nature all afflictions in the form and formless realms, excluding views arisen from non-Buddhists and their conjoined ignorance. The flood of views has as its nature the views arisen from non-Buddhists in the three realms. The flood of ignorance has as its nature the ignorance conjoined with the views arisen from non-Buddhists in the three realms. The Abhidharmasamuccaya states: 'The first is for those who practice seeking sensuality; the second is for those who practice seeking existence; the latter two are for those who practice seeking false holy conduct, due to the principles of support, supported, and conjunction.' The eighty-ninth fascicle is the same. The intent is to take the afflictions of practitioners in whom the three poisons are predominantly increased to establish the four floods, not taking the afflictions in the bodies of practitioners with equal shares of the three poisons or practitioners with few defilements.
