Among the four floods (ogha): the flood of desire takes as its nature all remaining defilements of the desire realm, excluding the views given rise to by non-Buddhists and their associated ignorance. The flood of existence takes as its nature all remaining defilements of the form and formless realms, excluding the views given rise to by non-Buddhists and their associated ignorance. The flood of views takes as its nature the views given rise to by non-Buddhists across the three realms. The flood of ignorance takes as its nature the ignorance associated with the views given rise to by non-Buddhists across the three realms. The Abhidharma-samuccaya says: The first is practicing the pursuit of desires; the second is practicing the pursuit of existence; the latter two are practicing the pursuit of false celibacy (brahmacarya), in accordance with the principle of supported and support being associated. Fascicle 89 is identical. The four yokes (yoga) are also like this, their essential natures being no different. Fascicle 89 says: Upper-grade defilements are called floods; defilements of equal-measure disposition are called yokes—this is the distinction between the two.
