Regarding false speech, there are ten distinct clauses. 'If it is already known, meaning speech passed through in accordance with the prior three': Jing says: arising false speech in accordance with what is seen or heard in the prior three places; the first is the king and those who administer justice, the second is individual persons such as householders, and the third is assemblies and great gatherings. False speech arises in accordance with hearing, perceiving, and knowing in those three places. Ji says: it means practicing false speech in accordance with speech passed through the three of hearing, perceiving, and knowing; since 'if it is already seen' onwards is stated separately, the three must be combined under 'knowing', but this is not the 'knowing' among the four [cognitions]—that knowing is narrow, whereas this knowing is broad. The path of action of false speech reaches culmination: the Abhidharmasamuccaya states that the assembly and the interlocutor understand.
