Regarding the first ground of support: its substance is speech alone; this speech is called a cause because it reveals the fruit of meaning. As for the statement in the text that 'names come first, hence conceptualization, etc.,' the initiation of speech proceeds by steps: first, conventional designations are collectively established for phenomena bound and unbound by the three realms; then, in accordance with what is seen, heard, etc., when wishing to explain a phenomenon, one specifically searches for the conceptualization of the name; and because of conceptualization, speech arises—hence it is so stated. The ground of support of reception has the relation of dependence between that which is received and that which receives as its nature: that which receives is the mental factor of sensation, and that which is received is all phenomena. In this treatise, dependence serves as the cause.
