Among the five meanings: 'thoroughly knowing the basis' means knowing the essence of all phenomena; 'thoroughly knowing the meaning' means knowing the meanings of their distinctions; 'due to conditions' means the four conditions; 'due to time' means the three times. Regarding 'the cause of thorough knowledge: one should know that this is precisely what can grasp the former two bodhipakṣa dharmas and so on': Tai says that the four foundations of mindfulness constitute one, and the four right strivings, the bases of psychic power, the faculties, powers, limbs of awakening, and path limbs together constitute one; these two can attain bodhi, hence it says 'two.' Another explanation says: The thirty-seven factors take the former two objects as their cognitive objects, hence it says 'two.'
