若釋名者，何故名名，能令種種共所了知，故名為名，又能令意作種種相，故名為名，又由語言之所呼召，故名為名。

As for explaining the designation: why is it called 'name' (*nāman*)? Because it makes things commonly understood in various ways, it is called 'name'; furthermore, because it causes the mind to form various mental images, it is called 'name'; furthermore, because it is that which is summoned by verbal expression, it is called 'name.'
