Second, 'disputes of mutual suspicion': seeking out an offense on the basis of the three grounds [of seeing, hearing, or suspecting], which subsequently gives rise to dispute; therefore it is called a 'dispute concerning searching' [anuvāda-adhikaraṇa]. This means using the determination of the offense and non-confusion to investigate where the transgression lies, or using recollection to immediately know purity and prove that the person has not committed an offense. Hence it says, 'settled by conferring purity.'
