Regarding 'Seventeenth, the gateway of nominal and real: nine real and three nominal,' this refers to the latter three. The Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi says: The already moistened six branches are combined to make existence; and the five branches from consciousness onward, because their threefold characteristics and phases are distinct, are named birth and so forth. A lower grade is called craving, and a higher grade is called clinging; therefore all are real.
