Regarding 'Twenty-second, the two fruits of objective domain and substance: the former six branches are able to generate the former fruit, and so on,' agreeable and disagreeable objective domains refer to conforming and non-conforming objects; feeling that takes this objective domain as condition is called fruit. Because the agreeable and disagreeable objective domains act as objective conditions to generate the feeling that can cognize them, feeling is called fruit. Because the former six branches act as causes able to generate this fruit of feeling, in order to experience that objective domain one initiates the former six: volitional formations act as cause for feeling, ignorance can initiate the cause, consciousness, name-and-form, and the six sense bases provide the support for feeling, and contact can generate feeling; in accordance with what is applicable, they are said to be able to generate it. The three of craving, clinging, and existence act as cause through moistening and being moistened, able to generate the fruit of self-substance in the five destinies. The single branch of feeling alone can generate two fruits: the present seed of feeling, once moistened, can generate active feeling, which is called generating the former fruit; the seeds projected by volitional formations generate future self-substance, which is called generating the latter fruit. Alternatively, preceding and subsequent moments generating their own kind is called generating the first fruit; being seeds unmoistened and acting remotely as projecting causes generating birth and aging-and-death in future lives is called generating the latter fruit.
