Sixth, subsumption under the three kinds of yogic practitioners: Ji says: "First, the beginner has two kinds: 1. A beginner in mental application, who abides on a single focal object and diligently cultivates mental application, up until they have not yet attained the mental application being cultivated and are not yet able to realize one-pointedness of mind. 2. A beginner in purifying defilements, who has already realized the mental application being cultivated and, desiring to purify their mind regarding defilements, properly and diligently cultivates the mental application that apprehends characteristics. Second, the yogic practitioner who has already practiced, which refers to having well cultivated the middle five mental applications. Third, the yogic practitioner who has transcended mental application, which refers to abiding in the seventh mental application, transcending what was cultivated through preparatory application and expedients, and abiding in the fruition of cultivation." Such are the three kinds of yogic practitioners.
