三十二相中，云何所依相？謂分別體相等者，謂內五蘊及種，即是見分相分名為所依，色等六處名所行相。云何心起相等者，此有二相，一一切心起相，即次前說作意是一相一切心生由作意故，二第八心起相，謂十二支中心緣於行亦緣名色生故。

Among the thirty-two characteristics, what is the characteristic of the basis? It refers to the intrinsic nature of conceptual discrimination and its characteristics: that is, the internal five aggregates and the seeds, which are precisely the perceiving aspect and the objective aspect, are called the basis; the six spheres of form and so on are called the characteristics of the domain of operation. What is the characteristic of the arising of mind and so on? Here there are two characteristics: first, the characteristic of the arising of all minds, which refers to the immediately preceding statement that mental application is a single characteristic, because all minds arise due to mental application; second, the characteristic of the arising of the eighth mind, which means that within the twelve links, mind arises dependent upon volitional formations and also dependent upon name-and-form.
