Herein there is an explanation: First, there is the severing of defilements prior to the path of seeing to render concentration pure; second, the noble concentration attained upon entering the signless state; third, the concentration attained by once-returners and non-returners, which should be understood respectively as due to attenuating greed, etc., and due to exhausting defilements of desire; fourth, the concentration attained commonly by non-returners and arhats, which can be matched respectively to present bliss and later vipāka; fifth, existing solely in the stage of non-learning, because one constantly practices the signless mind. Modeling the Great [Vehicle] on the Lesser, the Great also has five: first, before the bhūmis; second, the first bhūmi; third, the first seven bhūmis; fourth, the latter two bhūmis; fifth, the Tathāgata bhūmi.
