Ji further explains that: 'Among the four minds, two are nirvāṇa and two are not nirvāṇa: because with the mind of a non-trainee one enters [nirvāṇa] with remainder, and with the fourth mind one enters [nirvāṇa] without remainder, whereas the previous two are not. Furthermore, because this treatise below explains that to enter [nirvāṇa] without remainder one must first enter non-conceptual concentration, this is the mind of a non-trainee in the sixth mental consciousness, whereas the mind that is neither trainee nor non-trainee is the eighth consciousness. Only if one enters the attainment of cessation does one then enter nirvāṇa, because only this exists.' Regarding the five kinds of practitioners who cultivate contemplation: desire, ill will, harming, and existence/non-existence make three; the attainments of the form and formless realms are the fourth; the characteristic of nirvāṇa is the fifth.
