Regarding "direct perception that is not already thought of or to be thought of": what has already been thought of or is to be thought of mostly belongs to inference (anumāna) or is subsumed under non-valid cognition (apramāṇa); now, not being these two, it is called direct perception. Regarding "the moment it is apprehended it is immediately accomplished, apprehending the foundational object... up to if the illness is cured, it is called already thought of, and so forth": Jing says: The real dharmas of the four dusts are apprehended by the patient's four consciousnesses, and the moment they are apprehended they immediately constitute objects; because they are neither already thought of nor to be thought of, they are valid cognition. A medicine has the efficacy to remove illness; the patient's mental consciousness deliberates: "This medicine is now treating my sickness; is it cured or not yet cured?" This is inference.
