5.28

如金性內所有生金下，是發心出家名初陶練，在資糧道位得靜慮等，是以陶練入聖位也。是後陶練故論說言不為有行之所拘執，依惠根伏令根姓顯，根除煩惱立陶練名。

From the line 'Just as with raw gold within the nature of gold' down: giving rise to the mind and going forth is called the 'initial purification'; in the stage of the path of accumulation, attaining dhyāna and so forth is using purification to enter the noble stage. This is the 'subsequent purification.' Therefore, the treatise says that one is not constrained by conditioned practices: relying on the faculty of wisdom, one subdues [afflictions] so that the gotra becomes manifest, and by completely eradicating the defilements, it is established as 'purification.'
