Tenth, in the Sūtra on Cleansing Dust, the text has three parts: first, citing the sūtra and questioning; second, explaining the three refinements; third, presenting the dharma-analogy to match. Below 'just as raw gold existing within gold-nature,' this is generating the intention to leave household life, called the initial refinement; at the stage of the path of accumulation, obtaining dhyāna and so on, this is the second refinement; having entered the noble stage, this is the final refinement, which is why the treatise states: 'is not constrained by conditioned practices.' Depending on subduing through the faculty of wisdom, causing the disposition of faculties to become evident, and eliminating afflictions at the root, the name 'refinement' is established.
