In the explanation of the fourth verse, there are three alternative explanations. The second says 'all eating and drinking, speaking, and walking about': these two are, in sequence, undefiled in the three verse positions. However, abiding in the signless still has remaining suffering following along, and is not called extremely complete; or, for one's own benefit, eating and drinking and walking about are undefiled, or for the benefit of others, speaking and walking about are unshakeable; the word 'walking about' applies to both of the above benefits. Abiding in the signless is like floating on a clear pond; remaining suffering following along is called the ocean of saṃsāra when loathing the mud. The third says: liberation by wisdom, the bodily witness among those in training, and liberation in both parts are, in sequence, the three positions; because for these three persons the affliction-hindrance is exhausted but not the concentration-hindrance, or the concentration-hindrance is exhausted but not afflictions, or both hindrances are abandoned, they are therefore stated in this sequence.
