於中，初明眼識，次類耳等四識，後明卒爾意識。即此意識，有與非理分別俱行，能起煩惱，由此意識，於可愛色法，將生染著等者，即此卒爾意識與彼尋求決定前後俱行，當起染淨位中煩惱，故言將生前。

In this: first clarify eye-consciousness, next generalize to the four consciousnesses such as the ear, and finally clarify the abrupt mental consciousness. This very mental consciousness can operate concurrently with improper discrimination and give rise to afflictions. Regarding "Due to this mental consciousness, toward lovable forms and dharmas, being about to give rise to defiled attachment, etc.": this very abrupt mental consciousness operates concurrently before and after with that seeking and determining, and is about to give rise to afflictions in the defiled or pure state; hence it says "before being about to arise."
