The treatise says: 'From attaining liberation onward, one realizes and enters the fundamental absorption.' In the uninterrupted path, the unsteady mind is precisely the countered factor. Because the preceding eight each have distinct antidotes, the path of preparation involves discriminatingly contemplative minds; the subsequent uninterrupted path involves general contemplation. Alternatively, it is called the uninterrupted path, yet it does not necessarily explain expedients: the countered factors of the eight minds prior to the uninterrupted path are all hindrances that each have distinct antidotes, whereas the latter six do not distinctly eliminate hindrances but generically sever all afflictions. Discerning the sequence of this expedient and the uninterrupted [path] in this way, the eight merely suppress afflictions and are not its uninterrupted [path].
