7.284

今乃至言由此根力故，發生決擇分者，此根力是別決擇分是總，以別發生總故名發生，即俱時非異時前後發生名發起故也。有人言：得見道前有無漏者，如論次下，由根力無間發生出世無漏聖法，故知已前是有漏，不可言無漏。

Now, as for saying 'due to these faculties and powers, the aids to penetration are generated': these faculties and powers are specific, while the aids to penetration are general; because the specific generates the general, it is called 'generation'—that is, simultaneous and not at different times; generating before and after is termed 'generation'. Someone says: Prior to attaining the path of seeing, there are taintless [factors]. As stated immediately below in the treatise, 'due to the faculties and powers, supramundane, taintless, noble phenomena are immediately generated'; hence we know that prior to this they are contaminated, and one cannot call them taintless.
