"Culmination as its finality" refers to the fruit of preparatory culmination, its stage residing in the non-learner's knowledge of exhaustion and non-arising. Ji says: the first stanza explains that one moment possesses seven; the second single line explains the seven attentions in the initial inquiry. The first clarifies seven gateways: first, attention; second, freedom from desire; third, broadly differentiating concentrations; fourth, the two concentrations; fifth, the five supernormal knowledges; sixth, distinctions of masters; seventh, the emergence of marks. The fourth stage takes this as its essence; earlier in the thirty-first and thirty-second [fascicles], the purification of the fourth hindrance was clarified. Now it is explained: the fifth cultivation of attention is the major text in the thirtieth [fascicle]. We now follow the former judgment.
