於時時間於可厭法乃至名攝樂作意法者，第五解攝樂作意也。前卷攝樂以後明觀察，此卷先明觀察，後明攝樂者，前約世道離欲界欲入初靜慮七種作意順次而說，今此總據離修惑證中二果，以明於彼觀察斷與未斷然後略辨攝樂通於四道也。

Regarding "from time to time, toward repellent phenomena... is called the phenomenon of the attention that embraces joy": this is the fifth [section], explaining the attention that embraces joy. In the preceding fascicle, examination was explained after embracing joy; in this fascicle, examination is explained first and embracing joy afterward. The preceding was spoken in sequential order according to the seven kinds of attention of the worldly path abandoning desire in the desire realm to enter the first dhyāna; here it is spoken comprehensively based on abandoning the afflictions of cultivation to realize the intermediate two fruits, to clarify examination of what has been severed and what has not been severed, and then briefly distinguish embracing joy as pervading the four paths.
