Regarding the Pratyekabuddhabhūmi: in Sanskrit it is called pratyekabuddha, which was previously mistranslated as pi-zhi. Here it is translated as solitary-awakened. When they first generate the mind, they also encounter Buddhas and contemplate worldly dharmas; later, when obtaining the path, their body appears in an era without Buddhas; by nature delighting in quietude and not wishing to live among crowds, when their preparatory application is complete, with no teaching from teachers or companions, they naturally awaken on their own, forever leaving the world in a middle practice and middle fruit, and are therefore called solitary-awakened; or, contemplating and relying on conditions to awaken to the noble fruit, they are also called condition-awakened. The gotra, generation of mind, practice, and attainment of the fruit of such solitary-awakened ones are all collectively explained as the Pratyekabuddhabhūmi. In the text, it first concludes what came before and inquires into what follows, and subsequently opens five divisions to explain it.
