8.271

何以故下，辨其持義。以諸菩薩自乘種姓為所依故，為建立故，有所堪能、有大勢等者。（景云：）明二種姓為依止等能得菩提，由為依止故能建立，由建立故有所堪能，由堪能故有大勢力，具如是等故得菩提，亦可有所堪任釋前依止，有大勢力釋前建立。

From 'Why is this so?' onward, it distinguishes the meaning of 'support'. Regarding 'Because the gotra of the bodhisattvas' own vehicle is the support, because it is the establishment, they have capability, have great power...', and so on: (Jing says:) It clarifies that the two kinds of gotra serve as the support and so forth, enabling the attainment of awakening. Because it serves as the support, it can establish; because of establishment, there is capability; because of capability, there is great power; possessing such qualities, awakening is therefore attained. Alternatively, 'having capability' can explain the preceding 'support', and 'having great power' can explain the preceding 'establishment'.
