Second, generating the aspiration arises from the two gotras: in the sense of arising from the innate gotra, it is viewed as the support for praxis and expedient means; in the sense of arising from the acquired gotra, it is viewed as the establishing cause for praxis and expedient means. However, dāna, śīla, and so forth prior to the ten faiths are called dāna and so forth; upon the ten faiths, they are called pāramitās; on the first bhūmi and above, they are called the two provisions; and from the fourth bhūmi onward, they are called [dharmas] conducive to awakening. Due to this meaning, the author of the treatise raises them again. Alternatively, distinct names may be spoken in terms of simultaneous meanings: because they immediately remedy the six faults, because they desire to ascend to the other shore, because they can provision merit and wisdom, and because they induce awakening.
