若依護法，地前雖彼有漏聞熏資導本種增多，如薑芽等體，是本有種類，總屬本姓住種姓，是則地前無有無漏習種姓體，但從姓種姓生，於初地初念無分別智，此智起已，即熏成種，方是無漏習種姓體。若論有漏習種，地前即有。

According to Dharmapāla: although prior to the stages that conditioned perfuming from hearing assists and guides the original seeds to increase and multiply—like the sprouting of ginger—their essence belongs to the category of original existence, completely subsumed under the gotra abiding in original nature. Thus, prior to the stages there is no essence of a taintless cultivated gotra; only from the natural gotra is there generated, in the first moment of the first stage, non-conceptual wisdom. Once this wisdom arises, it perfumes and forms seeds, which then truly constitute the essence of the taintless cultivated gotra. If one speaks of conditioned cultivated seeds, they exist even prior to the stages.
