三、約位前後，景云：若依護月，性種本有義即居前十信初心，資熏姓種令其增長，即名習種，無別習體，從十信已去二姓恒俱，設入初地已去亦不熏種。論云熏者，但熏發舊種名為熏種。

Third, regarding anteriority and posteriority according to stage: Jing said: According to Candramati, the natural gotra is originally existent and thus comes first; at the initial mind of the ten stages of faith, perfuming and assisting the natural gotra causes it to increase, and it is then called the cultivated gotra, without any separate essence of cultivation. From the ten stages of faith onward, the two gotras are constantly present together, and even after entering the first stage, seeds are not newly perfumed. When the treatises speak of 'perfuming', it refers only to perfuming and activating the old seeds, which is called 'perfuming seeds'.
