Among the superiorities in four matters, regarding superiority in practice: bodhisattvas have a distinction in their practice of the two benefits. Causing [sentient beings] to obtain worldly wholesome causes is called benefit (hita); causing them to obtain worldly wholesome fruits is called happiness (sukha). Furthermore, causing them to obtain future pleasant fruits is called benefit, while causing them to obtain present pleasure is called happiness. The Mahāyānasaṃgraha states: Causing them to obtain supramundane bliss is called benefit; causing them to obtain worldly bliss is called happiness. Here it generally explains worldly benefit and happiness, which applies to the five destinies. From 'taking pity' onward, 'causing those humans and devas to obtain the ultimate truth, etc.' means that the receptacles of the human and deva destinies are capable of receiving the supramundane, taintless ultimate truth.
