Regarding "Why is this so? Empty by means of that, that is truly non-existent, and so forth": Jing says: It means that being deceptive, the imagined nature is empty, and that is truly non-existent; upon this ineffable dharmatā, the other-dependent and so forth, it is without deception and said to be empty, and this is truly existent. By this principle it can be said to be empty. If one says that even the ineffable intrinsic nature does not exist at all, the conceptualized grasping of the inverted mind must have something to rely upon; relying upon what place could it arise? Hence it says "what place." If there is something relied upon, there is that which relies and that which is relied upon; of these two, which one is empty? Hence it says "which one." If one says that both that which relies and that which is relied upon are empty: that which relies is false and can be said to be empty; why should that which is relied upon, being real, be called empty? Nor should one say that because of this that is relied upon, that which relies is false, and because that which relies is empty, this that is relied upon is also said to be empty.
