Ce says: Regarding 'tainted and grasped': according to the Sarvāstivādin, taint (āsrava) is explained with three meanings—arising from taints, being capable of generating taints, and being the locus of taints; hence it is called 'tainted'. Now the Mahāyāna explains taint with six meanings: namely, by intrinsic nature of taint, up to being of a heavy category, as explained at length in the Abhidharmasamuccaya. These very tainted things, being capable of having the four graspings, are called 'grasped'.
