Regarding 'If both exist, what you previously asserted as there being no giving...' and so forth: the fundamental tenet of those teachers did not deny causes and effects entirely; rather, relying on dhyāna, they saw that those in the world who practiced giving were born into poor families, and thinking that giving is powerless, they slandered it partially. Therefore, it is now asked whether the two karmic actions of being born there and afterwards exist together or not. If they completely denied everything, this objection would not hold. Regarding 'those free from the desire for ideation': this means freedom from the desire for all ideation, namely the heaven of non-conceptual thought; the remaining two are, respectively, freedom from desire for the form realm and desire realm, and entering into nirvāṇa.
