In explaining the object (ālambana), there are six parts: first, identifying the entity of the eye's object; second, separately listing the marks; third, explaining the meanings of shape, color, and informative [matter]; fourth, explaining that, apart from blue, yellow, red, and white, the remaining colors, shapes, and informative matter are all distinctions of the four fundamental colors, and because the remaining distinctions are established based on the four fundamental colors, they are all nominally posited; fifth, concluding that although the three categories differ, they are all domains of the eye and the rest; sixth, explaining the distinct manifestation of pleasant and unpleasant. The name 'matter' (rūpa) in the entity, although indicating the general designation of all matter, is precisely the distinct name of its own sphere. Resistance is of three kinds; here it is resistance as obstruction. In explaining the distinct marks, where the meaning differs from other treatises, it is entirely as in the first commentary on the Abhidharmasamuccaya and the Notes on the Kośa.
