The treatise states: 'If the manifested body is extremely similar to the Bodhisattva's own body, it is called a manifested body similar to oneself; if it is not so, it is called a manifested body not similar to oneself.' Because the Bodhisattva himself initiates the manifestation, when a Buddha manifests as extremely similar to a Bodhisattva, it is called 'similar to oneself'; otherwise, it is 'not similar'. 'Or there are Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who, even after parinirvāṇa, cause [the Dharma] to continue to turn in accordance [with the world] due to the power of their sustenance': for example, although Śākyamuni Buddha has entered parinirvāṇa, due to the power of his sustenance he causes the Dharma to continue to turn down to the present day. 'Or there are those who, having temporarily brought about benefit, have their transformative activities cease': for example, Śuśānta entered parinirvāṇa on the seventh day after attaining the Way, and his Dharma also ceased accordingly; without the power of sustenance, it was not subsequently disseminated, and so his transformative activities ceased.
