The treatise says: "What is the giving of intrinsic nature? It refers to bodhisattvas […] up to: this is called a bodhisattva's giving of intrinsic nature." First, it clarifies the essential nature of giving. That is, at the time of giving, it is intention associated with non-greed and the two actions of body and speech initiated by it, clarifying the essential nature, as in the twelfth fascicle of the Samuccaya. / "Abiding in the discipline" refers to relying on the Buddha's precepts. / "Agama view" means abiding in cause and effect. This "āgama" has two meanings: first, the meaning of transmission, that is, the transmission of the Buddha's teaching, formerly called ahan, as in the Āgama-sūtras; second, the meaning of explaining cause and effect, because cause transforms and reaches fruition. Here, the meaning of cause is taken. Having the definite view that there is fruition, one abides in [the conviction that] there is definitely fruition, and according to whoever comes seeking, one practices giving.
