The treatise explains the two characteristics in giving external things to sentient beings, wherein the second characteristic says: "Second, to those who seek mastery, with a mind of total detachment, giving everywhere to them." This means that for those who seek to use wealth, providing for what they seek in accordance with their usage is the first. Not desiring to seek wealth to use it, but merely desiring to attain mastery over wealth, the bodhisattva severs the thought that it is his own possession, relinquishes the wealth and gives it to them, leaving it to their mastery; this is the second.
