論「依了義經，不依不了義」等，言本性義者，即諸法之性體。言識有八種，是識之本性。小乘不了義不說，故并於本性亦不能了也。

Regarding the treatise's "relying on the explicit sūtras, not relying on the non-explicit," and so forth: the term "meaning of original nature" refers to the substance of the nature of all dharmas. To say that consciousness has eight kinds is the original nature of consciousness. Because the non-explicit teachings of the Hīnayāna do not speak of this, they are also unable to explicitly understand its original nature.
