In the aggregate of formations, "five categories that cause the mind to act": these are all functions of intention. "First, according with and providing an object": Master Jing said: regarding objects that are harmonious, adverse, and so on, intention accords with this object and operates together with consciousness. Master Bei said: intention can motivate the mind, causing the object to accord with the turn of the mind; "making" means making the object accord with and be provided to the mind. Master Tai said: intention causes the mind to accord with, receive, harmonize with, or conflict with the objective condition. Now I explain: because intention causes the mind to accord with and receive the objective condition, there is no need to speak of harmonizing and so on. This first one is a general statement; if one speaks of harmonizing and so on, how would it differ from the second and subsequent ones?
