The treatise says: "Furthermore, wholesome dharmas [arise] either through the power of application..." and so forth. This refers to generating application in this present life. "Through [the power of] innate nature..." and so forth: this means having repeatedly habituated this wholesome [state] in previous lives, so that the wholesome roots are increased and superior, not requiring the habituation of [present] application, which is called the power of innate nature. "The power of the field and person" means arising in relation to a field of merit, such as making offerings to the Buddha. "Or through the power of purity" refers to all wholesome minds in the upper two realms, which are free from the defilement of desire and pure in essence. Because one free from desire is pure in essence, their wholesomeness is also pure. Furthermore, all uncontaminated wholesome minds of trainees and non-trainees are named the power of purity.
