The treatise says: "There is one kind of wholesome, or there are ten kinds of wholesome..." and so forth. That is to say: first, the wholesome collectively encompasses immeasurable meanings, so eliminating the unwholesome is called wholesome; second, innately acquired and applied; third, innate nature, association, and consequent arising; and so on up to ten. The ascending numerical categories of the five kinds of ten wholesomes, such as the wholesome paths of karma, are as presented in the third [fascicle] of the Maulī Bhūmi. "Or because of the antidote to defilement" refers to the uninterrupted path. "Or because of the pacification of defilement" refers to the path of liberation; alternatively, the former is the uncontaminated and the latter is the contaminated path. "Or because the continuum is pure": this is to be known by analogy with the discipline of restraint and the two kinds of wholesome arising; alternatively, it is because the basis-body of a non-trainee is pure.
