In the third major section, among the twelve modes of causes of karma: the first three are the unwholesome roots; fourth, by one's own power; fifth, by another's power; sixth, driven by a king or others; seventh, having already acquired one's own goods, yet giving rise to greed—previously it was coveting another's goods, while here it is clinging to one's own wealth, hence the distinction; eighth, having fear and performing actions such as killing, as when fearing another will kill oneself and so performing killing, etc.; ninth, for the sake of causing harm, as when rats damage things, or fearing a snake will cause harm, and so performing killing, etc.; tenth, taking a single notion of dharma as principle, as when holding that harming life is correct dharma.
