In the second analysis, regarding 'Three are the path of defilements': the *Cheng weishi lun* says: ignorance, craving, and grasping are subsumed under defilements, which are these three; volitional action and a portion of existence are subsumed under karma, which are these two. It harmonizes with this by saying: where it is said that karma completely subsumes existence, one should know that it speaks relying on karmic existence. Harmonizing with the *Abhidharma-samuccaya* and others, it says: where it is said that consciousness is subsumed under karma, they speak of the seed of karma as the factor of consciousness. Regarding 'The rest are the path of suffering': following this, it refers to the remaining seven factors, because combined with existence, they are the path of karma. The *Cheng weishi lun* says: seven and a portion of existence are subsumed under suffering, because the five kinds from consciousness onwards transform and are called existence.
