In the fourth simile there are five phrases. "Transcending calamities" refers to the eight calamities, which are vitarka, vicāra, the four feelings, and the two breaths. The four phrases in the synthesis are matched to the preceding respectively. Regarding "Using eightfold warp and ninefold warp as a simile": in the western regions weaving fine cloth uses eight strands or nine strands to make a single warp thread; when weaving fine cloth, the cloth is tight and durable, just as here when making silk cloth, four or five silk threads are needed for it to be tight and durable. As for "because of being pure and brightly white": just as a garment is not thin and can endure various sufferings such as cold and heat. As for "because of its pervasiveness": just as there are no exposed parts, so none of the agitations can intrude.
